Stop the Bleed
Be Prepared to Save a Life
Severe bleeding can become life-threatening within minutes. The Stop the Bleed program empowers individuals with the knowledge and confidence to act quickly during a bleeding emergency until professional medical help arrives.
San Isidro ISD is committed to promoting a safe learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. Through awareness, training, and preparedness, we strive to ensure that our campuses are equipped to respond effectively in emergency situations.
What Is Stop the Bleed?
Stop the Bleed is a national awareness and education campaign designed to teach individuals how to recognize and respond to life-threatening bleeding emergencies.
Participants learn how to:
- Identify life-threatening bleeding
- Apply direct pressure to a wound
- Properly pack a wound
- Correctly apply a tourniquet
- Provide immediate assistance until emergency responders arrive
Just as CPR helps save lives during cardiac emergencies, bleeding control skills can help save lives during traumatic injuries.
Why It Matters
Uncontrolled bleeding is one of the leading causes of preventable death after an injury. In many emergencies, bystanders are the first people available to provide assistance.
Learning basic bleeding control techniques can:
- Save lives
- Reduce blood loss
- Increase confidence during emergencies
- Improve campus and community preparedness
A person can bleed to death in as little as five minutes, making immediate action critical.
Stop the Bleed Kits
San Isidro ISD maintains bleeding control kits at designated campus locations. These kits may include:
- Tourniquets
- Compression bandages
- Gauze and wound-packing materials
- Protective gloves
- Trauma shears
- Emergency instructions
Staff members are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the locations of bleeding control kits on their campuses.
Staff Training
The district supports Stop the Bleed training opportunities for staff members and emergency response teams.
Training may include:
- Recognition of life-threatening bleeding
- Hands-on tourniquet application
- Wound-packing techniques
- Emergency response procedures
- Coordination with first responders
For information regarding upcoming training opportunities, please contact the Health Services Department.
