South Texas Academic Rising Scholars (STARS)
STARS will be providing scholarships through a general scholarship application. Recipients will be chosen on the basis of academic achievement, personal strengths, leadership and financial need. Recipients will be notified in mid-June if they qualify for an award, and sent directly to the Financial Aid Department of the school the student will be attending, following verification of enrollment. Applications may be downloaded at the STARS website beginning January 1, 2007.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident with a permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551.
- Have a permanent South Texas address in one of the following counties: Aransas, Bee, Brooks, Cameron, Duval, Goliad, Jim Hogg, Jim Wells, Hidalgo, Karnes, Kenedy, Kleberg, La Salle, Live Oak, McMullen, Nueces, San Patricio, Refugio, Starr, Webb, Willacy or Zapata.
- Be an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled full-time in a degree seeking program at a U.S. accredited college or university for the full academic year.
- Have earned at least 12 undergraduate credit hours in a U.S. accredited college or university.
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale (3.0 for graduate students).
