2009-2010 Ethel W. Spears Scholarship
District VI, Texas Garden Clubs, Inc.

Purpose:

To offer student financial aid and to promote the study of Horticulture, Floriculture, Landscape Design, Botany, Plant Pathology, Forestry, Agronomy, Environmental Concerns, City Planning, and/or Land Management

Applications:

Must be typed and on offical forms. All documentation must be submitted as requested.

Scholarships:

Awarded annually and disbursed to the recipient of the scholarship upon proof of registration for the fall semester. Winners are contacted prior to the date of the Texas Garden Clubs District VI Spring Convention. Amount of awards is determined annually by availability of funds from interest earned on the scholarship endowment and donations. The 2007-2008 scholarship will be in the amount of $700.00. The Scholarship honors Ethel W. Spears.

Committee & Judges:

District IV Chairman, Vice Chairman and three other committee members. Awards are approved by the District VI Executive Committee.

Qualifications:

• Applicants must be a resident of the Rio Grande Valley and either a senior in high school or a student enrolled in a college or university offering courses toward the students field of study
• A high school student must have a minimum scholarship index of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Judging:

The decision of the judges will be based on: 1. Financial Need. 2. Academic record. 3. Character. 4. Commitment to career. 5. Variety of avocation.
